Aketo Wanga Gloria

Birthday May 5, 2005 – (7 years old)

The name Aketo Wanga comes from the Acholi word “Keto”, meaning looking on and “Wanga”, meaning eyes. Gloria’s mother gave her this name because she had been faced with so many problems; she could do nothing but just look on to see what would come next.

Gloria lives with her mohter, Atimago Betty and six siblings. Betty is HIV positive, when she can, she rolls paper beads and works in the stone quarry under brutal conditions. Betty makes just $10 a month and is the sole care giver for the family, because her husband abandoned her.

Gloria attends St. John Bosco, where her favorite subjects are math and english. Gloria enjoys drawing and reading and hopes to become a teacher.
