Day 15 – 11 July 2014

Today we met Margret and headed to the maket to do some shopping. One of the sponsors wanted to do more then just send a gift to their child, they wanted to help her whole family. Before we came to Uganda, Margret visited the family home and found out what their needs were. So we headed to the market with the money the sponsor had sent and bought what the family needed.

Our first stop was the mattress shop, the children were sleeping on empty rice sacks so the first thing we needed to get them were 2 new mattresses. Next we headed to the food area where we bought them 20 kilograms of posho, sugar and rice, stapes for a Ugandan family, that way they would have food, we also bought some biscuits, a kind of cookie, and a bag of sweeties (candy) as a special treat for the family. Next we headed to get something special for just Olivia, we got her a beautiful new dress so she could feel special knowing her sponsored cared so much for her.

After that we headed out to Kimaka to Kilombera, a weaving shop where they weave the most beautiful fabric to make scarves, blankets, table clothes and other things all by using a giant wooden loom. Godfrey, one of the weavers was happy to show us around and explain the whole process to us. From designing the colors and pattern, to stringing the threads, to lacing the looms to weaving the fabric. I was in awe of how easy they made it look, but how amazingly intricate it was, and they do it all by hand. After watching them for some time, we went to the shop to buy some of their beautiful products.

We ended the night by going to dinner with two of our favorite people, Zeke and his mama Viola. Spending time with this beautiful new family makes my heart so happy. I love seeing how much Zeke loves Viola, and takes care of her, with the life that Zeke has had in his short 12 years or so, its amazing to see that he can trust, love and bond. We went to one of our favorite places, The Keep, and listened to a band that was playing African music that came from Kamapala. It was a great way to end our day!
